This powerful quote and framework is a call to seek to understand others before you ask to be understood.
When having a heated argument or a debate, disagreeing with the other party does nothing to convince them of your point of view.
Instead, it pushes them further away from agreeing to a compromise.
The key to changing someone’s mind is finding a shared belief or motive that will keep them open to your point of view.
