On: How to bring your dreams and goals to life

This year, as in years past, I set goals for myself. But there was a subtle and profound shift in my approach. For years, I subscribed to the conventional wisdom that success was about setting ambitious goals and pushing myself to reach them. But this year, I discovered a different truth. I realized that the key to success lies not in the lofty goals I set for myself, but in the commitments I make and keep along the way.

One month into the year, I have come to appreciate the power of making commitments over setting goals as a means of positioning oneself for success. Although goals can be a powerful tool for motivation and direction, they can also be daunting, often set too high, and sometimes lead us to overlook the journey and focus solely on the destination.

Make achievable commitments to build momentum

Making commitments alongside the goals we set for ourselves is a powerful way to position for success. Achievable and realistic commitments are powerful because they can bring a sense of empowerment, purpose, enjoyment, and a path to results. Goals on the other hand can cause us to miss the beauty of the journey and neglect the small triumphs along the way.
